Fuzzy Math

February 17, 2010

President Barack Obama, VP Joe Biden and former Gov. Tom Kaine (now chairman of the DNC) are each trying to sell the same pile of garbage to the American people; the 2009 Stimulus Bill has “created or saved” 2 million jobs over the past year.  The Congressional Budget Office have used the same fuzzy math formula to come up with a more modest 600,000 to 1.6 million jobs “saved or created” (how it is possible that there is a 1 MILLION person disparity between the two numbers I have no idea).  Economists are befuddled by both of  these calculations pointing out that “created or saved” is not a recognized economic statistic and even if it were, it is absolutely impossible to calculate exactly what those numbers would be.

Why don’t we just stick to the facts.  In February 10th, 2009 there were 11.6 million people unemployed according to the Department of Labor Statistics.  Fast forward to today, there are 14.8 million unemployed.  3.2 million jobs lost in one year.

The White House politicians and pundits can use their fuzzy math to argue whether or not the 2009 Stimulus bill has worked, but if you want the truth, talk to the 3.2 million Americans who have lost their jobs over the past 12 months.

Would the best solution would be to have cut spending and tell the American people to have a much higher tolerance for economic failure than what current society has?
