Idiot of the Week (5/14)

May 14, 2010

Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt)

Congratulations Pat Leahy, you are the Idiot of the Week!

From the Huffington Post:

“We have some Republicans who would automatically oppose anybody who was nominated.  The President could nominate Moses the Law Giver. In fact I told the President, I said you realize if you’d nominated Moses the Law Giver, somebody would raise, ‘but he doesn’t have a birth certificate!  Where’s his birth certificate!'”

If I could just point out 3 minor details:

  1. According to Deuteronomy 34:5, Moses is dead!  Article 3, paragraph. 1 does appoint Justices for life, but not into death.
  2. If Moses did have a birth certificate, it would be a forgery!  Egypt did not issue birth certificates and even if they did, Moses’ parents hid baby Moses from the Egyptian authorities therefore he would not have been given one.  Forgery would violate the “Good Behavior” clause and disqualify Moses from Supreme Court consideration.
  3. Birth Certificate or not, Moses was not a United States citizen!  According to the 11th Amendment, he would be disqualified.

Please study the laws of our country before opening your big mouth.

Senator Leahy, your lame attempt at humor (more precisely your slightly veiled attempt to link Republican Senators with the birther movement) has earned you the title of:  Red Rog Idiot of the Week.
