Will Folks Endorses Nikki Haley in the South Carolina Governor Race?

June 6, 2010

Nikki Haley

The blogosphere has been on fire these past two week with tales of a funny looking South Carolina political blogger and the alleged affair that he may or may not have had with the attractive Republican candidate for Governor in that state.  Although the accuser, Will Folks, has offered no hard evidence for the affair, other than the time and date of phone calls and text messages, he insists that he’s telling the truth.

Nikki Haley, the aforementioned Republican candidate for Governor has denied the claim.

Folks has continued to cash in these past two weeks, dripping innuendos and commentaries on his website; just enough to keep visitors coming back day after day.

Yesterday’s installment of the Will Folks rant was quite possible the most interesting of them all, because, although he accuses Haley of lying about their alleged tryst, Folks all but endorsed Nikki Haley in Tuesday’s Republican primary.

About the other candidates in the race, Folks says;

“I think Rep. Haley’s three rivals in the race for the Republican gubernatorial nomination are as worthless as tits on a bull, which makes them not unlike the two leading Democratic candidates – Vincent Sheheen and Jim Rex.”

Folks goes on to talk about what South Carolina needs;

“…our state desperately needs to keep a fiscal conservative reformer in the Governor’s Office”

But Folks feels that Haley’s three GOP rivals fall short;

“…the Republican Party has put up three status quo, social conservative panderers,”

Folks then begins to address Haley and the alleged affair’s significance in the Governor’s race;

“I have never believed that a candidate’s marital fidelity (or lack thereof) should be considered when making a determination about their ability to govern”

So when considering all the facts and rumors, Folks reveals the post that he was going to write, before he made the alleged affair public;

We also like Nikki because she has proven her willingness to take a bullet for what she believes.  In pushing for greater government transparency, she and her colleague Nathan Ballentine were rudely stripped of their committee assignments because they refused to back down from powerful Speaker Bobby Harrell, who like most legislative leaders wants taxpayers to remain in the dark when it comes to how their money is being spent.

That setback only made her stronger, though.

Now, Nikki is continuing her fight for greater transparency, pushing a bill that would force “on-the-record” votes for all major legislation as well as individual sections of the state budget.  This scrutiny would save taxpayers’ millions of dollars, and go a long way toward restoring the public’s faith in government.

But in typical Sic Willie fashion, Folks cannot let a sleeping dog lie.  He feels the need to rehash his accusations and comes across boyishly hurt that Haley did not play along with his little game.

His advice for the Republican voters of South Carolina; “Good luck with that…”

Meaning, take all the evidence that I have given you here and draw your own conclusion, I assume.

So, if I am understanding this correctly, Folks is telling the voters of South Carolina that Andre Bauer, Gresham Barrett and Henry Barrett are horrible choices for the state, just as bad as the Democrat candidates and Nikki Haley is the fiscal conservative reformer that South Carolina desperately needs, but he is not supporting anyone?

It seems to me, from what Will Folks has written, that he has joined his blogosphere brethren Red Dog Report, Red State, Riehl World View, Moe Lane and The OTHER McCain endorsing Nikki Haley for South Carolina Governor.

You should too.  SUPPORT NIKKI HALEY in the South Carolina Republican primary!

UPDATE: 6/6 8:52 pm – Haley 43%, Bauer, 23%: It seems that Sic Willie still has some pull with the South Carolina voters.  24 hours after his “endorsement”, the latest PPP poll shows Nikki Haley up by 20 points.

Haley’s support is pretty universal. She gets 43% with both moderates and conservatives, 45% in the Low Country, 44% in the Midlands, and 40% in the Upstate. At this point the chances of her winning an outright majority and avoiding a runoff appear to be better than the ones of her not finishing first.

UPDATE II: 6/6 10:35 pm – From the PPP Poll;

“Only 13% of voters believe the allegations about Haley’s marital infidelity.”

    S Carolinians want to redeem their state from the filth of petty politics and low life smear tactics. This shows maturity, decency and goodness of the South Carolina people who have been underestimated and are being maligned in the rest of the country as backward, racist and ignorant.

    That a non- white person, that too an immigrant, and who has been tainted with such vicious politically motivated smears- can rise to become the front runner against established white boys, speaks volumes about the greatness and common sense of the people and Republican party . I think Tuesday will be a day of redemption for South Carolina.

      Well said Gary. Here’s hoping over 50% of the Republican voters in South Carolina prove you right.
