PayGo Finally Gets Some Teeth

June 17, 2010

On February 12, 2010, Obama signed statutory PAYGO rules in law.  Thursday they finally got some teeth.

By a vote of 45-52, the Senate rejected President Obama’s $80 Billion spending reauthorization bill. The spending in the bill would have extended unemployment benefits beyond the already 99 week period.

12 Democrats joined with the Republicans to defeat Obama’s spending authorization, including Ben Nelson (D) of Nebraska;

“I’ve said all along that we have to be able to pay for what we’re spending.  $77 billion or more of this is not paid for and that translates into deficit spending and adding to the debt, and the American people are right: We’ve got to stop doing that.”

Wow, somebody in Washington was listening!

Continue to speak out; it would be nice to see the Senate Democrats continue to act responsibly.
