Israeli Diplomat: US-Israeli relations have suffered a ‘tectonic rift’

June 28, 2010

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu meets with President Obama last May

Michael Oren, Israel’s ambassador to Washington, told foreign ministry colleagues at a private briefing in Jerusalem that the relationship between the United States and Israel has suffered a “tectonic rift” and that the two nations were facing a long and potentially irrevocable estrangement.

“There is no crisis in Israel-US relations because in a crisis there are ups and downs. [Instead] relations are in a state of tectonic rift in which continents are drifting apart.”

Israeli attempts to work through Rahm Emanuel have failed and, instead, the President himself has decided to take the lead role in repairing the relationship.

“Its a one man show.”

The fate of U.S.-Israeli relations, at least until January, 20 2013,  rests in the hands of Barack Obama.

God help us all.
